Martyrdom of Officers and Soldiers in Counter-Terrorism Operations

DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that 383 officers and soldiers were martyred during counter-terrorism operations in the year 2024. The nation pays tribute to these brave sons and their families.
Commitment to Eliminating Terrorism
DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, while holding a press conference, said that we have no doubt that the war against terrorists will continue until the last terrorist and Khawarij are eliminated.
Pakistan’s Efforts for Peace in Afghanistan
He said that everyone knows that Pakistan has made every effort to establish peace in Afghanistan. Pakistan’s role has been the most important for establishing peace in Afghanistan. Pakistan has been hosting Afghan refugees for a long time, which has been acknowledged by the whole world. Despite all the efforts of Pakistan and the identification of the Afghan interim government at the 12-state level, Fitna al-Kharij have been carrying out terrorist operations in Pakistan from Afghan soil. The fabric and evidence of terrorist incidents go to the sanctuaries of terrorists in Afghanistan.

Army Chief’s Stance on Terrorist Sanctuaries
The DG ISPR said that the Army Chief has a clear and unequivocal position that Pakistan has reservations about the sanctuaries available to banned organizations, facilitation, and independent operations from Afghan soil. Pakistan will leave no stone unturned in eliminating the terrorist network and providing security to citizens at all costs.
Progress in Border Management and Anti-Smuggling Efforts
He said that the ongoing work under the West Border Management Regime is about to be completed. Seventy-two percent of the area in the tribal districts has been cleared of landmines. A crackdown against smuggling, electricity theft, and hoarders is underway on the special instructions of the government, in which the Pakistan Army is playing its role. In this regard, various operations have been taken from across the country under a comprehensive strategy, which has led to a clear reduction in these illegal activities.
Reduction in Illegal Activities
Due to these efforts:
- Illegal border crossings have decreased.
- The use of passports has increased.
- There has been a clear reduction in smuggling.
Evacuation of Illegal Afghan Residents
The evacuation of illegal Afghan residents from Pakistan is ongoing. Since September 2023, 815,000 Afghan residents have returned.
